Fire Damage Walkthrough
Randy Williams, the owner at SERVPRO of Alexander & Caldwell Counties, takes us on a tour of the Williams Physical Education Center at Lees Mcrae College as his team performs restoration services to correct issues caused by a severe fire that occurred in February 2017.
We start the tour of the 40-thousand square foot facility in the lobby where smoke and soot made its way above ceiling tiles damaged during firefighting efforts. The ceiling materials required removal before SERVPRO technicians were able to clean properly. However, Randy’s team painstakingly cleaned every surface you see by hand, including the trophy cases and each trophy inside, which was especially important to their Athletics Director and Administration Staff.
Everything from athletic uniforms to the concession stand's contents, along with athletic equipment, textiles, and soft goods; all received special handling from technicians to move them to a secure location for proper cleaning and restoration.
Moving on, Randy explains how they had to install over 400 sheets of plywood to protect the gymnasium floor from damage as scaffolding was used to help SERVPRO technicians reach surfaces on the 24-foot ceilings safely.
We move back into the hallway outside of the Athletic Director’s office where Randy explains that while the firefighters did a tremendous job getting the flames under control, every fire leads to water damage as well. By responding quickly, Randy’s team used various drying and extraction equipment to limit water losses and prevent microbial growth.
In the Fitness Center, 80-percent of the athletic equipment needed to be moved to our storage facility, so that we could access the floor and remove the rubber mat system. SERVPRO has IICRC-industry certified technicians, and NADCA certified duct cleaning technicians that spent a tremendous amount of time in various areas, using approved products to clean ducting, bar-joist, metal decking, and walls throughout the facility.
We finish up in the pool area that received the same type of attention. With the removal and cleaning finished; repairs can begin. Randy explains how our technicians respond quickly and are prepared for any size disaster, making damages disappear “Like it never even happened.”
